Spring is here! It’s a time to recharge and refresh. Whether it’s your home or diet, these longer days beg for some spring cleaning. Over the years, we’ve had some amazing gluten free sandwich ideas and today, we’re going to round up some of our faves that are light, tasty and ideal for a “cleaned up” spring menu.
Gluten Free Sandwich Ideas
1. Gluten Free BLT with Avocado
We LOVE a BLT around here. Cool crisp lettuce, crunchy bacon, and vine-ripened tomatoes combine into a sandwich that just tastes like the outdoors. It is one of a family favorite! Serve it with a big garden salad or fresh corn on the cob. Plus, you can load up your BLT without the bread cracking, because our breads are soft and pliable.
This version of a BLT sandwich adds sliced or mashed avocado for the very best BLT around. Enjoy!
2. Gluten Free Shrimp Po Boy
A Po-Boy may not be traditionally thought of as a healthy sandwich, but with a few tweaks, it’s near perfection, in our books. Use pan sauteed shrimp with the perfect spice blend (instead of frying), skip the mayo, layer oodles of lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Then, serve atop an a gluten free hoagie bun, and you’ve got yourself a tasty New Orleans treat!
3. Italian Garden Sandwich
Load up the veggies, add a sprinkling of vinegar and serve atop our Rye Style, and you’ve got yourself a spring sandwich you’re going to want to eat every day!
4. Classic Club Sandwich
The club sandwich is made with your choice of poultry (such as chicken, turkey or duck), crispy bacon, crunchy lettuce, juicy ripe tomato, and creamy mayonnaise. It can be made with double layers, with an extra slice of bread separating the layers, and held together with hors d’oeuvre sticks.
Toasted bread or not, it is your preference, but this sandwich is the perfect combination of flavors, making it a meal all in itself. The club sandwich has been enjoyed by generation after generation and is certainly here to stay.
5. Tuna Salad Sandwich
This delightful sandwich is packed with flavor for a deliciously light meal. For convenience, make ahead and store in your refrigerator for several sandwiches during the week. This recipe can also be tossed with gluten free elbows to bring on your next picnic.
6. Bahn Mi Sandwich
Banh Mi is a Vietnamese term for all sorts of bread products, but it has also come to be the name of a fantastic marinated pork street sandwich. We serve ours on our gluten free hoagie rolls, toasted, with a sweet and tangy carrot-radish slaw and spicy mayo. You can prepare the pork and the spread up to a day ahead and refrigerate.
7. Grilled Panini
A Panini is a grilled, pan-warmed, pressed Italian sandwich. Grilling elevates a basic sandwich by warming the ingredients making it more substantial and satisfying than a cold sandwich. While most Panini sandwiches contain cheese, you can replace with your favorite dairy-free cheese alternative, sliced avocado or a dollop of hummus. Fill your Panini with your favorite fillings and grill away.
8. Green Goddess Sandwich
Is there a better way to start your healthy living journey than with the fresh, goodness of vegetables? You’re going to love this vegetarian gluten free sandwich packed full of flavor and nutrients! Step inside for my take on the Green Goddess Sandwich.
9. Crab Cake Sandwich
The Crab Cake is composed of Crab Meat and other various ingredients, such as bread or crackers, mayonnaise, eggs, spices, and seasonings. The Cake can be broiled, baked, fried or grilled and then served on a roll, as a sandwich or plated, as the main entree or even as an appetizer.
10. Hot Pastrami Sandwich
Traditionally pastrami is piled into the sandwich right out of a steamer, but we’ve devised a shortcut so you can get to eating your sandwich as soon as possible by grilling or baking the bread and pastrami together. However you like to make your sandwich, be sure to use Three Bakers Gluten Free Rye-Style Bread. Our bread perfectly toasts up, staying tender and moist on the inside, while the outside of the bread crisps, bringing out all the flavors of whole grain and caraway seed. Paired with gluten free turkey pastrami, a thin slice of ooey-gooey melted Swiss cheese (use your favorite dairy-free cheese substitute, if needed), and slathered with plenty of mustard. Three Bakers Rye-Style Bread can stand up to the demands of this popular sandwich.
11. Smoked Salmon Sandwich
Smoked salmon is a heart-healthy protein, that when mixed with fresh vegetable toppings is an unbelievably healthy sandwich idea. This version is dairy-free too!
No matter what food you choose to enjoy this spring, we hope the delicious varieties of Three Bakers’ gluten free breads will make it to your plate. We bake our food with a commitment to your health, as well as your tastebuds!
