Happy National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day!
January 14 has been declared National Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day, as if you need an excuse to eat this hearty sandwich. Celebrate by making up a gluten free, piled high, piping hot sandwich that is sure to warm you up down to your toes.
Traditionally pastrami is piled into the sandwich right out of a steamer, but we’ve devised a shortcut so you can get to eating your sandwich as soon as possible by grilling or baking the bread and pastrami together. However you like to make your sandwich, be sure to use Three Bakers Gluten Free Rye-Style Bread. Our bread perfectly toasts up, staying tender and moist on the inside, while the outside of the bread crisps, bringing out all the flavors of whole grain and caraway seed. Paired with gluten free turkey pastrami, a thin slice of ooey-gooey melted Swiss cheese (use your favorite dairy-free cheese substitute, if needed), and slathered with plenty of mustard. Three Bakers Rye-Style Bread can stand up to the demands of this popular sandwich.
Don’t forget to serve it all up with coleslaw and a pickle spear. Enjoy!
Hot Pastrami on Three Bakers Gluten Free Rye-Style Bread
Serves 4
- oil, for cooking
- 8 slices Three Bakers gluten free Rye-Style Bread
- 1 1/4 pounds gluten free turkey pastrami
- 4 slices thinly sliced Swiss or Muenster cheese or dairy free replacement 4 tablespoons coarse grind mustard
Lightly oil bread slices on one side of each slice.
Keep the oiled side of the bread on the outside of sandwich. Spread mustard on the inner sides of the bread slices.
Divide pastrami between four slices of bread. Top with cheese and the top slices of bread.
Grill sandwiches in a pre-heated skillet over medium-high heat until golden and cheese is melted, flipping sandwich to toast both sides. Alternatively, place sandwiches on a baking sheet. Bake in a pre-heated 375 degree F oven until bread is toasted, pastrami is hot, and cheese is melted, about 10 minutes.
