Do your kids hop out of bed on Easter morning in anticipation of discovering all of the goodies the Easter Bunny left in their Easter basket? If your kids follow a gluten-free diet, that could put a damper on their joy, especially if they have to give some items away or if their basket is less full than others’. With a little preplanning, you can put together an amazing Easter basket that will bring worry-free delight to your kids.
Gluten-Free Easter Basket
NOT ALL CHOCOLATE BUNNIES ARE GLUTEN-FREE
Let’s start here: Not all chocolate bunnies are gluten-free. What? It’s true! Chocolate is gluten-free but some chocolate is made in facilities that also process gluten so there is a possibility of cross-contamination. Also, be aware of chocolate bunnies with extras like pretzels and cookies that are rarely gluten-free. This chocolate bunny made by No Whey is a great option because it’s so good, it’s adorable, and it’s is allergen-free. It’s a win-win!
GLUTEN-FREE SNACKS THEY WILL LOVE
Once you have the bunny picked out, it’s time to start adding filler snacks to the basket. You could add some Jelly Belly Jelly Beans, Hershey’s Kisses, Peeps, and Starburst candies to round out the basket flavors.
MAKE YOUR OWN
Another fun option is to make some gluten-free treats everyone will enjoy. This post has a range of ideas from cupcakes and bars that are easy to wrap and stick in a basket. It also has recipes for carrot cake and other desserts that won’t fit well in an easter basket but they look crazy good!
NON FOOD IDEAS
Sometimes it’s more fun and a whole lot easier to minimize the food in an Easter basket and replace it with non-food items that kids love. You could do a themed basket like gardening, family movie night, or art, or you can just sprinkle the basket with a mix of candy and toys. These options are sure to be a hit.
- Crayons and a coloring book
- Bubbles
- Play Doh
- Play Cars
- Stuffed animal
- Game
- Deck of cards
- Flower seeds and pot
